My travels

Travelling is a big feature in my plans for the future.  I now use carers on holiday to help me with anything i find physically challenging.  At first I had a big mantal block about letting go and accepting that I now need care, but I soon saw that regarding holidays I can choose to go where and when I like and for how long and know that together with a carer I'll overcome anything I usually struggle like hell to do.  I've come to appreciate holidays with carers as extremely freeing experiences and I'd proably crack up without them.

We're going to Florida in October 2009 for three weeks; staying in the same place as we did last time - see http://ohbother.co.uk/12.html.  The hotel like every part of the holiday is wheelchair friendly.  Hopefully I'll be back at Matt's Mazaron Mansion (see http://ohbother.co.uk/35.html) over New Year, dependent on finding a carer who's free and willing!  We're also going back to Florida in May 2010; we're going as a family (brothers, sister, kids etc...) and staying in a villa (http://www.floridaorangetreevilla.co.uk/), which is an i nfinitely cheaper option but it isn't wheelchair friendly at all.  Check out the pages in this section to see info on my previous holidays...

I get a lot of emails asking who i get my travel insurance from.  I can highly recommend the one I use - AllClear Travel Insurance - who offer insurance to people who have medical conditions.  You can get online quotes and when you phone up they seem to be familiar with terms such as Friedreich’s Ataxia and Scoliosis which always inspires confidence.
